Farmer Field day event is held at Kokko Gone village in Nyaung U Township on 27th February 2018 and Khaing Village in Kyaukpadaung Township on 28th February 2018. There are around 60 farmers join the events in each township. The farmers are coming from different villages near the event holding village.

The event is started by the opening speech of Daw Khin Htay Yee, Nyaung U Township officer, Department of Agriculture (DOA). U Htay Naing, Nyaung U Distract Officer, Department of Agriculture (DOA) and U Htay Naing, Regional Project Manager, Cesvi give the speech to the farmers in order to understand more about Climate Change and adoption of Climate Smart Agriculture.

Farmer Field Days in Nyaung U and Kyaukpadaung
In order to promote new knowledge and climate smart agriculture, DOA staffs explain the benefits of planting chickpea, the processes of planting and the benefits of using organic fertilizers in both townships. The farmers check chickpea plants in different ways including counting seeds, counting the number of the plant in demonstration area and comparing with the regular chickpea plants. After that, DOA and farmers calculate the estimated chickpeas production from the yields. Then, the Lead farmers also share their experience about planting chickpea, zero tillage cost-effective way, caring the plants and benefits of organic fertilizers. Moreover, the representatives from Farmers Channel (Department of Agricultural Research) also record the whole event and broadcast in Free to air, Farmer Channel soon.
The event is the achievement after working of one crop seasons by a series of five FFS meetings for the particular of FFS chickpea activities starting from Nov 2017 to March 2018. The training is especially about applying zero tillage, using Farm Yard Manure (FYM) to improve soil, encouraging to reduce using chemical pesticide and applying rhizobium which is environmentally friendly. It is under the roof of “Sustainable cropland and forest management in priority agro-ecosystems of Myanmar” project which is jointly coordinated and implemented by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conversation (MoNREC) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation (MoALI) with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). It has been currently implementing FFS (Farmers Field School) activities for chickpea, green gram and sesame crops in 13 villages, both townships of Kyaukpadaung and Nyaung U with the collaboration of Department of Agriculture (DOA) and Cesvi Organization.
This event is a significant step towards the adoption of climate smart agriculture by sharing the knowledge and experience to the farmers in Kyaukpadaung and Nyang U.
