Training of Trainers on CSA and FFS was successfully conducted from 25 Sep to 27 Sep, 2017 at Arthawka Hotel at New Bagan, Nyaung U. A total of 40 participants attended the training.
Daw Mar Mar Cho, Nyaung U Seed Farm Manger DAR, MoALI made opening speech from the government side. From the FAO side Mr Jitendra Jaiswal and Ms Khin San Nwe (CSA International and National Specialists) delivered the welcome and opening speech. The training methodology included power point presentations, video show, sharing of ideas and experiences, group work, plenary presentations and discussions and field visit to a groundnut demonstration field jointly implemented by DoA Nyaung U and JICA.
FAO Climate Smart Agriculture Specialists facilitated sessions on various topics such as Orientation on objectives, expected results and activities of the “FFS establishment in Central Dry Zone” initiative; concept and techniques of Climate Smart Agriculture; FAO approach/concept and operationalization of Farmers Field School (FFS); concept, methodologies/tools for village profiling; roles and responsibilities of each party (FAO, Cesvi, DoA and DAR) and important issues related to the contract management (reporting, monitoring and evaluation arrangements and any other operational issues).
The Research Officer, DAR Nyaung-U (Daw Mar Mar Cho) facilitated a session on Climate smart soil improvement and water saving agricultural techniques. Then, the DoA Township Officer, Nyaung-U (Daw Khin Htay Yee) facilitated sessions on climate smart techniques on chickpea and green gram cultivation.
Moreover, the DoA Township Officer, Kyaukpadaung (Daw Khin Moe Kyi) facilitated a session on climate smart techniques on sesame cultivation. After that there is a session on knowledge management was facilitated by FAO Knowledge Management Specialist and got positive interest about the social platform from both partners and government staffs.
The training is successfully finished on 27 September 2017 by training the participants on the concept and techniques of Climate Smart Agriculture and Farmers’ Field School in general and with specific crops included in this initiative in particular.
